Reporting to the Group Leader, Traffic and Customs, the Clerk, Traffic is accountable for researching, auditing, preparing, and processing documents relating to customs, sales tax, and transportation. They will also be responsible for providing back-up and vacation relief to the traffic desk.

Responsibilities:

Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures Arrange, track and expedite Teck’s products, materials and supplies in and out of Trail Operations through coordination with Teck’s internal task holders (sales, production, and shipping personnel) and external business partners (vendors, logistic service providers, and customs service providers) Use knowledge of rates, traffic movement, customs regulations, and sales tax to assist suppliers, plants and shipping personnel on import and export of products and materials Re-reporting of import truck shipments once they have been scaled and subsequently once the final values have been assigned to the lots Determine classification and duty on imported and exported goods and prepare necessary movement documentation to meet customs compliance and other government requirements Prepare monthly payment, adjustment and cheque requisitions for duty, excise tax, sales tax, and interest on imports Examine purchase orders to determine applicable trade agreements and apply the trade agreement to orders with a Certificate of Origin. Trace and expedite incoming and outgoing freight, including cross border transaction and custom clearances Act as a consultant to Buyers and other Company personnel concerning customs regulations including duty and or transportation routing; interpret regulations and provide cost estimates in these areas. Process invoices from vendors and other service providers, validate rates and services Maintain HS Code and import libraries Audit customs clearances filed by Teck’s customs broker Responding to internal and external customs audits Act as a consultant to buyers and other personnel concerting customs regulations including duty and taxes Work with third party customs broker, suppliers and Teck’s purchasing department to answer questions, confirm purchase order numbers, and obtain necessary product information for HS Coding purposes Utilize PC and third-party online tools to prepare customs clearance documents and obtaining information, answer queries Organize and retain the records Assist other task holder’s shipping needs as necessary upon their request

Qualifications:

Completion of a Business Diploma is required with preference given to those with an accounting concentration. Preference will be given to those with a CCS Designation or are currently enrolled in the course Previous customs experience is considered an asset Experience with all aspects of product shipping and receiving with a focus on dangerous goods would be an asset. Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively Proficiency in Microsoft Office software with an emphasis on Excel is required Able to work independently and in a team environment is required
