Chemistry lab, Faculty Assistant
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinate the setting up, delivery, and taking down of labs with Chemistry faculty Assist faculty during labs Prepare demonstration and lab materials for lab instruction and experiments Demonstrate and enforce safe lab practices and policies Organize and maintain lab supplies, equipment, chemicals and safety data sheets Coordinate with college staff the purchasing and receiving of supplies and equipment Maintain an up-to-date account of expenditures on lab materials and equipment Ensure that chemicals and hazardous materials are stored and disposed according to WHMIS regulations Perform other duties assigned by the School Chair Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to work as part of a team Knowledge of safe lab practices Ability to maintain and operate lab equipment, and handle chemicals safely Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Willingness to contribute to School and/or College initiatives Education and Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or a related discipline Demonstrated successful work experience in a science laboratory Previous Faculty Assistant experience at a post-secondary institution is an asset This is a regular, part-time (60%) position commencing August 1, 2022. Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Selkirk College Faculty Association Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,369.08 to $3,806.85 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
