The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) is located in the southern interior of British Columbia and prides itself on providing smart, sustainable governance and services to its constituents throughout our 8,200 km2 region. The RDKB is currently seeking applications to fill one permanent, full-time Building & Plumbing Official position located in Trail, BC. Reporting to the Manager of Building Inspection Services, the Building & Plumbing Official is primarily responsible for providing a range of inspection services including conducting plan reviews and field inspections for compliance with applicable building and plumbing codes and relevant regulations. As a member of our Building Inspection team, they are also responsible for processing building permit applications, assisting in routine administration of departmental matters, building bylaw enforcement, and providing technical information to the general public.

The ideal candidate will possess Level 3 Qualifications from the Building Officials Association of BC, Level 1 Plumbing Qualifications and a minimum of 5 years work experience in a local government environment. Level 1 and 2 Qualified Building Officials with 1 to 3 years of local government work experience, and persons with a level of education, training and experience equivalent to a technical degree or diploma in a related discipline such as engineering, civil or building technology will also be considered for this position. Level 1 “in-training” applicants may be considered. This may include applicants with relevant trade qualifications who are currently enrolled in a level 1 course with the Building Officials’ Association of BC or BCIT and working towards their level 1 qualifications. ACBOA Certification Level 1, 2 or 3 or equivalent will also be considered for this position.

Applicants must also possess:

An interprovincial Trades Qualification in Carpentry or plumbing, or a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Building Technology, or equivalent 4 years’ building design and construction experience Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License Satisfactory criminal record check
